Task 6. Alina Isaeva
Hello everyone!
It is common
knowledge that dictionaries are the best helpers in learning foreign languages.
So I would like to share with you the most important and useful dictionaries
which help me study new words.
The first one is Cambridge Dictionary.
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/
It is a really great resource. Here you can find the
definition of an unfamiliar word, its collocations, and its transcription and also
you can listen how to pronounce it. In
addition, it is comfortable and convenient to read materials.
The second one is Longman Dictionary. https://www.ldoceonline.com/
It is similar to Cambridge Dictionary.
But it has some peculiarities, for instance, this dictionary examines words in
more details, it gives you information about the origin of the word or some
grammatical issues. There are examples from the Corpus. Also it is interesting
that every day the word of the day is announced.
And the last is Reverso Context. http://context.reverso.net/
This dictionary
helps your learn how to use words in sentences, how to build phrases and
sentences, and also you can find a lot of synonyms.
Thank you for
your attention!
I hope my post
will be useful for you.
What is your favorite
dictionary?

Thanks for sharing the information about your favourite dictionaries. Your explanation about when you use which of them when is quite helpful. Thanks. But I have a couple of questions:
ReplyDeleteHow do ypu decide which of these dictionaries to use and what steps do you take before you actually use a word or an expression in your speech or writing?
