Post: Women Photographers
I've read an article about women photographers, who have to battle sexism in photography.
I find it rather topical. As the article says today the majority of students of photojournalism programs are women, but women made up just 15% of entries to the World Press Photo awards. They are faced to (prep) many different problems such as a physical threat to their safety, an unconscious bias and stereotypes. For example, the article mentions that “women should stick to what they know: weddings, beauty, children, families”. Also women are more prone to imposter syndrome.
On the other hand, female photographers have advantages in certain situations. For example, gaining access to, and the trust of, children or women in conservative countries in the Middle East.
