A summary of an article Aleksandra Ushakova

Science of anger: how gender, age and personality shape this emotion

Anger is one of human's primal feelings > possessive case not necessary. It can be felt in (prep) different occasions as a reaction to unpleasant things. The article I've chosen is about this complex feeling and how different people manifest it.

First of all the article gives the definition of the (art) anger. It is explained that the (art) anger is one of the feelings that human beings have had since since prehistoric times. However the manifestation of this feeling is kept under control by the prefrontal cortex, part of the brain that is responsible for decision-making.

Then the author explains the influence of the (art) anger on our behavior and its benefits, that is really surprising as anger is considered to be just a negative feeling. So, an angry person tends to be more prejudiced about other people, and that > it makes him less tolerant in respect of others (WExp). Angry people can offend someone without even noticing it. However, if the person is angry, they tend to be more productive as the anger functions as a motivator. The experiment described in the article proved that angry people are more likely to finish a task faster as they tend to work harder.

The following part of the article is devoted to the differences in ART manifestation of the anger between men and women. Interestingly enough, it was proven that men and women experience the anger equally frequently. While men are more likely to display aggression, women are more likely to keep it under control and to put the angry energy into the work. Some scientists say that this difference is due to the brain biology, but not all the scientists agree because many of them think that this difference is due to some societal expectations.

The part that seems the least interesting for me and, probably, for all the people of the same age is the part in which this feeling LINK VERB described respectively > regarding the toddlers. There are also given some pieces of advice for parents (WWO): > some pieces of advice <...> who have some troubles with their children.

The last part is devoted to the connection between the anger and our mental health that can be viewed differently. Mental health can suffer either from the violence a person've seen in childhood(,) or from some diseases such as dementia or Alzheimers's. Both can resulted in more frequent manifestations of anger.

All in all, the article explains in details the causes and different manifestations of the anger. There is no question left that I'd like to clarify as the article is rather thorough and comprehensible even for people who don't know anything of the brain biology or neuroscience.

  1. Sasha,

A summary is supposed to give the readers the main ideas of what smth you read is about, omitting all the details. What you've written is a very detailed discussion of the article
