Post 5: Anxiety and depression: How to deal with them?
Dear All,
in the thread share with your peers and me a couple of things that make you happy. It can be a rather personal question but still I think it could be useful to have an idea about it.
in the thread share with your peers and me a couple of things that make you happy. It can be a rather personal question but still I think it could be useful to have an idea about it.
So, thank you for your question! I find it is very interesting discussion.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I feel happy spending time with my family and friends, doing sport, going to a movie, theater or cafe and learning foreign languages. You know, I can say that I’m really happy person.
Anyway, I’d like to hear your opinion on this topic.
Liza,
DeleteThanks for your enthusiasm. What would be interesting to learn is some special details. For example, what was the last film you watched that you liked? Did you watch it at home or at the theater? Alone or with friends? Was it in English/Russian/some other language?
Honestly, a lot of things make me happy. For example, sleeping at least 8 hours, the bright sun that warms the air.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when I am with my family and friends. When we talking about what we care about.
When my friends come from different cities whom I have not seen for a long time.
O am happy when I take care about my close people and when they are happy)
Lera, thanks. It is quite clear what makes you happy. It is wonderful that what makes you happy among other things is caring about people who you are close with.
DeleteFirst of all, my parent make me happy. They are always ready to support in a difficult moment ,I know I can rely on them and tell them everything .
ReplyDeleteMy friends make me happy. If I am in a bad mood or have some problems they will certainly correct the situation. Also I get happier when I listen to music.
Katya, thanks for your answer! I'll answer in more detail a bit later.
DeleteI did not expect it, but it turns out to be a really difficult question. Most likely, something that can make me happy are some trivia or accidents. The life, I think, consists of them and they fill it with happiness.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but how can accidents make you happy? Maybe you meant smth else?
DeleteLera, thanks. By "trivia" you mean some simple things, right? Can you share some examples?
DeleteSo, we decided to choose with Sasha post-traumatic disorder. You know, it is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
ReplyDeleteGirls, thanks. It's a simple and clear definition. What you didn't do is add the information about the source. Let me repeat that it's always necessary even if you were told what resource to use. It's part of academic conventions. Here is a good explanation of what they are:
Deletehttps://unilearning.uow.edu.au/academic/4a.html
I'm inviting you to get acquainted with them and next time we'll discuss them in more detail
Now let's discuss the conditions listed in the discussion section
ReplyDeleteChoose one and share a brief explanation of what it is. You can check the explanation in Wikipedia and post a link to the corresponding article or its section in the thread
Chronic fatigue disorder
DeleteChronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating disorder characterized by extreme tiredness that doesn’t go away with rest and can’t be explained by an underlying medical condition.
ReplyDeleteThe causes of CFS aren’t well understood. Some theories include viral infection, psychological stress, or a combination of factors.
CFS is most commonly seen among people in their 40s and 50s. Gender also plays an important role in CFS, as women are two to four times more likely to be diagnosed with CFS than men.
Lera,
Deletewhat's the source? Don't forget to add this information
If you are interested in additional information, you can read it here: https://www.healthline.com/health/chronic-fatigue-syndrome#risk-factors
DeleteSeasonal affective disorder
ReplyDeletePost-traumatic stress disorder
ReplyDeleteRoad rage
ReplyDelete"Road Rage" is a very interesting disease. It is the driver's rage and indignation towards other drivers on the road. This outrage is caused by the difficulties of modern driving and can manifest itself in the form of threatening with a fist, shouting insults, beatings and even killing.
ReplyDeleteWe suppose this "disease" is relevant for Russia:)
(Кошечкина, Страчук)
Girls, do you consider it to be a disease? What makes you think so?
DeleteSo, let's try to find out how to overcome these situations? I'll share a more detailed task with you later but in essence what you need to do is find a resource which discusses one of these in the context of young people's life. I mean young people of your age. Share the information about the resource by answering the following questions:
ReplyDelete1. Why did you choose it?
2. What are 3 things you learned from it?
3. What else would you lile to learn?
4. A "wild card" question
This is a very interesting topic! I read a lot of articles on this topic and decided to share this site with you: http://www.dddkursk.ru/number/852/health/001972/ (if you are interested you can just copy the link)
DeleteI like that that there are 2 opinions how to cope with adolescent depression: doctors' and ordinary people's. Doctors, of course, advise different pills and soothing herbs. But they also say that such animals as cats, dogs, horses and, especially, dolphins can relieve depression. Art therapy and spiritual practices will be a great help too.
What do say ordinary people say?
1. A day bed rest. We don't do anything - we don't work, we don't talk on the phone, we don't cook food, we don't surf the Internet, we don't watch TV.
2.Take a notebook and start thinking about why we have depression and why we need it.
3.Remember how we can please ourselves, what activities and entertainment add strength to us?
(The continuation you can see on the web-site)
By the way, I've learnt that the most depressive mounth is Fabruary! It's close so get ready;)
So, can you tell me have you ever been depressed? If so, how did you fight with it?
This topic is really close and interesting for me, because I have a first-hand experience of depression.
ReplyDeleteI barely searched all the Internet to find out some useful tips, and here are the best ones: https://www.helpguide.org/articles/depression/teenagers-guide-to-depression.htm
1. First of all, try to understand the main reason of your depression. Talking to anybody you trust would be the best way to understand it.
2. Next, do not isolate youself!! It will draw wrong thougts.
3. Try to adopt healthy habits, do sports, have a rest and sleep enough.
Sometimes it could be very hard to overcome a depression; however, as for me, even more difficult is when your close friend has such disease, because you are to help him. So, my question is how to help a friend to overcome a depression and not to disserve him or her?

ReplyDeleteHonestly, for some reason I’ve never considered depression as a serious disease. But my opinion has recently changed when I collided this face to face. That’s why I’m very interested in discussing this topic. When I read articles about ways out of depression, I came across this girl's article. You can read it in full at this link.
ReplyDeletehttp://alenakraeva.com/positive-philosophy/kak-vyjti-iz-depressii-samostoyatelno/
In her opinion, depression has long been a real disease, but if you try to treat it only with pills prescribed by the doctor, it will not work. I totally agree with her. Each case is unique indeed. And only mass-produced tablets are unlikely can help.
The author suggests a step-by-step way out of depression.
1. Do not look for the cause of your depression.
2. Raise your self-esteem.
3. Change your attitude to life. Here she suggests remembering the phrase of the American writer’s Gary Vaynerchuk. Every day he says to himself: "I am not eternal".
Thanks to this article and my personal experience, I was convinced that only you can help yourself. If you don’t want to change something, the efforts of doctors and close people will be in vain. So, I would like to ask you the following: have you ever tried to save a close person from depression while he was not set to return to normal life?
Good evening! How are you? I hope, you’re fine.
ReplyDeleteWell, as for this topic, it is close to me because I am such a person who falls into a similar state for 1-2 times a year. It happens because I don’t show all my real emotions to the people around me, but accumulate it in myself and sometimes there come moments when I become mentally exhausted. According to my own experience, in this case, can help:
• Be by yourself (I mean put your phone on silent, may be wearing comfortable clothes and just think about what’s bothering you );
• It is helpful to cry ( this will help to wash away one wave of all your anxiety);
• Talk to your close one(s)/people (Tell him/her/them about what makes you worried and ask some help to solve these problems. In most cases, people come to the conclusion that there is nothing to worry about and this is a temporary mental exhaustion, and they just need to get away from it. For example, go to the café and drink some coffee with friends or family)
By the way, I found one resource where I’ve read interesting information about the depression.
The author advised to reward yourself for your efforts. You can ask others around you to encourage and praise you for each small step you take. Recovering from depression is a bit like learning to walk again after breaking your leg. I think it is useful advice. I’ve found this article very informative.
So, if you want to learn more about this disease, you can read some information here: https://thiswayup.org.au/how-do-you-feel/sad/#deal
Well, I would like to ask you what do you think is the most common cause of depression?
As for me,depression never seemed to me a serious illness.Usually if I have a depression I know how to bring myself to life. As a rule, good music, conversation with my relatives or just eating something sweet help me.But for some people depression is a real problem which is difficult to solve.I was interesting how other people overcome this problem,so I turned to the Internet for help.I came across a curious article(https://blog.mindvalley.com/how-to-overcome-depression/)
ReplyDeleteThe author of the article offers some simple ways to deal with depression:
1).Do physical exercise
I never tried to deal with depression such way,but I know some people for whom this method is the most effective.
2).Eat Mood-Boosting Foods
It means that to deal with depression you can try to eat depression-fighting foods, for example ,lean proteins, like turkey and chicken, fatty fish, like salmon, walnuts and etc.
This products contain omega-3s that good for your body and brain.
3). Drink Green Tea
4).Try A Guided Meditation
The last advise is for people who are familiar with such method ,I suppose.
Anyway ,there are only some of advises which may help to deal with depression,in fact ,there thousands of them in Internet, for example.I hope that each person who has such problem as depression can overcome it .
Of course, sometimes I can be in a bad mood and don't have energy to do my daily routine. But I never consider it as a depression, because this one is much scarier and it's very hard to get rid of it. I learned it by communicating with people who faced with this psychological disorder. My penpal told me his story about a series of failures in his life which led him to depression, so I tried to help him and make this man smile again, so I looked for some tips to overcome depression on the Internet. There was a very useful article (https://www.helpguide.org/articles/depression/coping-with-depression.htm) which offered simple ways that can help:
ReplyDelete1) Try to stay connected to other people and take part in social activities.
2) Care for a pet. Pets can bring joy and companionship into your life and help you feel less isolated.
3) Practice relaxation techniques: spend some time in nature, take a hot bath.
Here I didn't write out all the points, but most working ones. Thus, this site provides complete information about how to overcome depression, even in terms of nutrition and the body as a whole. What can I add? Coping with depression alone is very difficult. That's why we must be more attentive to our close people, because sometimes they need our support.
Hi everyone! Depression is a really serious mental illness. Many people consider low mood is a depression. However it is not right. It is much serious and it affects your physical and mental health. I've read an article about teens' depression. (https://www.helpguide.org/articles/depression/teenagers-guide-to-depression.htm)
ReplyDeleteYoung people are more predisposed to get depressed because of many reasons, such as:
1. Serious illness, chronic pain, or physical disability
2.Having other mental health conditions, such as anxiety, an eating disorder, learning disorder, or ADHD
3.Alcohol or drug abuse
4.Academic or family problems
5.Bullying
6.Trauma from violence or abuse
7.Recent stressful life experiences, such as parental divorce or the death of a loved one
8.Coping with your sexual identity in an unsupportive environment
9.Loneliness and lack of social support
10.Spending too much time on social media
Nonetheless, there are many tips to avoid this mental condition:
1)Talk to an adult you trust
2) Try not to isolate yourself—it makes depression worse
3)Adopt healthy habits
-Get moving!
-Be smart about what you eat.
-Avoid alcohol and drugs.
-Aim for eight hours of sleep each night.
4)Manage stress and anxiety
I hope it would helpful and useful:)
Hello evereone! Depression is a very serious problem. I suffered from depression several times. I know it is very difficult to cope with it. I've read an article about depression.https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/depression/what-is-depression It was a very useful article for me. Depression symptoms can vary from mild to severe and can include:
ReplyDelete1.Feeling sad or having a depressed mood
2.Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
3.Changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting
4.Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
5.Loss of energy or increased fatigue
6.Increase in purposeless physical activity (e.g., hand-wringing or pacing) or slowed movements and speech (actions observable by others)
7.Feeling worthless or guilty
8.Difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions
9.Thoughts of death or suicide
The author distinguishes 3 methods of struggle against depression:
1)Medication (Brain chemistry may contribute to an individual’s depression and may factor into their treatment. For this reason, antidepressants might be prescribed to help modify one’s brain chemistry. Antidepressants may produce some improvement within the first week or two of use.)
2)Psychotherapy (It is a form of therapy focused on the present and problem solving. It helps a person to recognize distorted thinking and then change behaviors and thinking. In many cases, significant improvement can be made in 10 to 15 sessions.)
3)Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) (It is a medical treatment most commonly used for patients with severe major depression . It involves a brief electrical stimulation of the brain while the patient is under anesthesia. It led to major improvements.)
For me, the methods are unusual .What do you think ? Share with me your opinion. Which of these three methods do you find more productive? And which less ?
Thank you for your attention!
