A For Against Essay. Torgalo Elizaveta
Should Countries Encourage Tourism?
Travel has always been attractive to people of any age. This is the best way not only to distract from their problems but also to learn new things and be inspired. However, not all countries develop a tourist business area.
One of the main arguments for developing tourism is that it encourages governments to improve local facilities. This means that the country will be more well-groomed, clean and prosperous. In countries where the tourism business is developed, always hold various events, congresses, and so on. This will delight not only tourists but also residents of the country. For example, before the Olympiad in 2014, which took place in Sochi, the Russian government had changed and ennobled the city so much that now it can be compared with some European resort. Moreover, if there are more tourists in the country, then new vacancies will appear to serve the guests of the country. It will also have a good effect on people's living standards.
What is more, tourism allows people to experience other cultures. If tourism is developed in all countries of the world, it will help people better understand each other. Nowadays, there are many ethnic conflicts due to the fact that the media impose on us. And people who do not have the opportunity to see the world and get acquainted with other nationalities believe in the pictures that governments show them. Although, it is not always true. The development of tourism can contribute to the establishment of relations and, accordingly, world peace. In other words, it is beneficial both to the residents and tourists.
On the other hand, over-development leads to ugly, crowded tourist spots and environmental damage. Indeed, this can lead to the fact that people no longer live a normal life and will notice the penetration of tourism in all areas of their activities. For example, they will not be able to dine in the city center in a good restaurant without pre-ordering a table. Furthermore, due to the large flow of tourists, there may be a lot of garbage and waste in the cities.
In addition to this, a country's economy may become so dependent on tourism that it is weakened. As a result of the growth of the tourist area, many countries have ceased to engage in other areas and develop other resources of their country. This brought to the fact that they have become almost dependent on tourists who come to their country. For example, when the crisis occurred in Russia, many people stopped traveling to Turkey in the summer, which led to the bankruptcy of many hotels and restaurants there. Appropriately, many people have left without work.
In conclusion, there are some advantages and disadvantages of encouraging tourism. But I believe that it can help people not only raise their standard of living but also get to know foreigners who are completely different from them.
