A Summary by Vera Murashova
Hello everyone!
Recently I have read a very intriguing and provocative article devoted to a new album of Jamila Woods: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/may/10/jamila-woods-legacy-legacy-review-jagjaguwar
This album is called “Legacy! Legacy!” As indicated by its title, the main idea is to show a loving testimony to black artists, where each track title is named after historical figures (such as Frida, Basquiat, Giovanni, and so on).
Therefore, I came up with the idea that the problem of racism is still up-to-date.
I personally think that in our modern 21-century society it is rather absurd to divide people into “blacks” and “whites”. Moreover, we are not to judge a human being’s mind by its appearance.
Next, what is also interesting is that in one of her songs, Jamila Woods mentions a word “different” in a positive way, she says: "I am different, I am, I am," and it’s easy to agree, because she is so wise and brave women who successfully proves that black people are no longer worse than others.
Anyway, if there are any people who despise dark-skinned people left, I would like them to read this article to ensure that it is absolutely stupid.
Questions: What would you like to learn from it? What information from it you knew? What information is /was not clear?
First of all, it was interesting for me to discover such a marvelous person as Jamila Woods whose songs inspire me. Next, I admire such artists Jan Michel Basquiat, and it was surprisingly pleasant to find songs devoted to them. Finally, this article showed me that the problem of racism still worries people. Fortunately, for me there was no unclear information.
Vera,
ReplyDeletewhat you have written is not a summary of an article but your reflection on it.
Things to consider:
marvelous person: it sounds strange in the context of your work. "Unusal", "exraordinary", "outstanding" are more suitable here
