A Summary of an Article. Valeria Kazacnenko.
Slavary is a phenomenon with a cenruries-longer history. According to the scientists reserchers more than 13 million people were captured and sold as slaves during 5 centuries (from the 15th century to the 19th century). Nowadays anyone hardly thinks about this problem because it seems being so far from our today's life. Unfortunately, the article, which I have chosen, suggests otherwise. It turns out that the slavary remains the up-to-date issue even nowadays.

People can be called slaves if they
work against their will. Now there are more than 25 million people, who do it.
Slaves clean houses, produce the clothes we wear, grow and pick fruits and vegetables
we eat, work on construction jobs building infrastructure and so on. Moreover, 4.8 million people from 25 are also sexually abused. And,
obviously, 99% of all victims are girls or women who are involved in the
commercial sex industry.
Statistically, modern slavery is
most prevalent in Africa, followed by Asia and the Pacific. But there isn’t a
single country that isn’t involved in slavery: 1.5 million victims are living
in developed countries.
But why are there so many slaves
today? Slavery is big business. Slaves work either for a very small fee
or for free. It is very profitable and saves money.
It is interesting to note that the
top 10 countries with the highest estimated absolute number of victims are also
some of the most populous. Together, these 10 countries – China, Democratic
Republic of the Congo, India, Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan,
the Philippines and Russia – comprise 60% of all the people living in modern
slavery, as well as more than half the world’s population, according to the
Global Slavery Index.
So I think this is a very important
issue. Paying attention to it, we can try to get rid of it.
Hello Lera,
ReplyDeleteyou have written a very detailed account of the article you have read.
However, summaries are usually organised in a different way. Here's a link to the summary template that can help you organise it as is commonly done: https://bit.ly/30wCzTo.
Also, usually summaries are much shorter because their purpose is to present the main ideas of the reading selection.
