An opinion essay - Alina Isaeva
We owe ecology an apology
Nowadays there are
numerous heated debates related to environmental issues while our vulnerable
planet is suffering from destructive human activities. Some people claim that
we should blame only ourselves and try to improve the current ecological
situation for the better. However, others take nature’s gifts for granted and
do not want to take action in its salvation.
I support those
people who think that we need to save the Earth. To begin with, a lot of
factories and vehicles emit poisonous chemicals like carbon monoxide into the
air. This results in acid rains which damage everything. Moreover, pesticides
used in crop spraying release harmful agrochemicals that are deposited in the
soil. Last but not least, accidents involving oil tankers pollute the water and
kill the animals by destroying their natural habitats.
In contrast, there
are some people who consider all these disastrous problems as the obligate
consequences of the industrial upbuilding of a nation. If they have a chance to
choose between the erection of a huge factory and the conservation of a forest,
they would prefer the first option, as it would be more profitable.
I cannot agree
with them on account that the speed with which we are using up our depleting
resources is appalling. With the development of our civilization we have become
very dangerous to the planet. People should be wiser before we have reached the
point of no return.
In conclusion,
there are different attitudes to this burning issue. I am convinced that nature
just seems to be boundless and endless. Humanity should preserve the Earth and
not rock the boat.
Hello Alina,
ReplyDeletethe topic you have chosen is very urgent indeed, so it'd be great if more people around the world were concerned about it and acted to preserve the environment more actively. Actually, in the first place I mean Russia here because it seems not so many people are concerned about the polution of the Russian cities and the general situation with ecology,
Your essay is rather well-developed and organised. However, what is missing is the reference information. Where does the information in paragraph 2 come from? It is not the kind of information that falls into the category of "general knowledge", in which case references are not necessary. Also, you could improve your conclusion by using some approprite technique for conclusions. Here is one resource that can help you with this: http://writing2.richmond.edu/writing/wweb/conclude.html
