Laughter is the best medicine. Do you agree? For me, the laughter is an important part of my life. I am a sociable and cheerful person by nature and, that’s why, you can often see me laughing or telling something to my friends.  So, why laughter is called medicine? I can give a supportive example from my own experience. My best friend is often depressed and she needs in moral support. In that case, I make her laughing and it’s a win-win situation.  Besides, I would like to give one more supportive example which is related to science. Dr. Henri Rubinstein wrote that the therapeutic properties of laughter are difficult to overestimate. In confirmation, he gave a number of cases where the treatment of laughter saved his patients. One day a woman came to him who had been drugging herself for years. The doctor prescribed her a course of Buster Keaton and other American comedians, and the lady watched films with their participation every evening. After a few m...

Individual topic. Aleksandra Ushakova

"Money Matters a lot" Nowadays it is fairly impossible to imagine our life without money. We have never seen the world without such a thing. However, the importance of money in people's lifes is a problem to discuss. The society is divided into people who find money the vital aspect of their life, people who believe money to be pure evil and people who just live their life without art strong emphasis on this aspect. The point of view of the last group of people is clear, and I find it the most adequate one. People who do everything in their life for money do not notice anything apart from that. Besides, people who does not think that money is an important part of their life at all are impractical. In my opinion, people should be down-to-earth.    Sasha, it's not quite clear whether it is a summary of an article or your own thoughts on the topic. You should have made it clear. Also, if it is a summary you should have organised it better by using the expre...

Laughter is a great medicine. Do you agree?       Well, this topic made me think. Until some time in the past  I didn’t believe in any "medication", because if I am upset, nothing will help. I mean will not help unequivocally . Of course, it may muffle pain or disappointment for a while, but later I will still think about it.          However, I recently discovered this feature: laughter really makes me forget about problems. Or even (Sp)  not exactly (Sp)  laughter itself, but people who make me laugh. I feel complete peace and joy, which makes me happy, and after that it seems to me that there are no problems, and even if they are, they are insignificant. Laughter once again reminds me that I have people whom I love very much.       All in all, laughter is the (Art)  positive emotions. They always bring joy to a man, though not for long. That is why optimists live easie...

Individual task about the rap misic . Vera Murashova

I like the hip-hop culture, and it always have been interesting for me to follow the historical development of it. Listening to the   rap music helps me to relax and forget about all the problems I have; by the way, the most important thing is to choose the correct song that reflects your mood at this particular moment. So, to continue the idea about the historical   changes   of rap music, I can say for sure that the contemporary one is so much different from the   trends in the past. It became rather pessimistic (despite several exceptions like Lil Pump, who enjoys his life, billions of money he has, and, naturally, weed) and I do not understand why; nevertheless, it is still interesting to listen to because it is like a voice of the generation, and moreover, several days ago I had a chance to get a  feedback from the rapper I wrote to, whose name is Benny Mails. Actually, I was very surprised and happy at the same time… anyway, it supports my idea of liste...

Vera Murashova: Are you happy with your body. The full essay version by Vera Murashova

Cosmetic Surgery Nowadays the problem of cosmetic surgery is extremely popular and up-to-date. On the one hand, there are so many women who try to copy the features of flawless plastic dolls, like Barbie, widening their eyes, making nostrils smaller, putting collagen into their lips, adding implants, and so on. On the other hand, lots of women (and men also) protest and insist on accepting your own features. Thus, let us discuss the all the pros and cons to make up a conclusion about this controversial problem. Speaking about   advantages of cosmetic surgery, the most people say that it gives them more confidence. If you are not satisfied with your lips, why not to change it to be more self-assured? Maybe the   nature has done  a mistake that makes you suffer? Moreover, such people say that there is nothing special in having a cosmetic surgery, because it is similar to having your hair dyed or teeth straightened. They claim that it is just a way to b...

Task 1. My university life

My University Life  Hello everyone! How are you? Today I am going to talk about my university life and its differences from a school life.  First of all, I was really looking forward to university entrance > entering the university , as I was aware that I would study what I wanted(,) and not the general program. Accordingly, this expectation was justified , (P) and it became more interesting for me to learn. Also, it is worth noting that we have very interesting teachers at the faculty, who are pleasant to deal with.  However, it was difficult for me to get used to the new schedule and the various breaks between classes. Moreover, the long road > a long time that it takes to get to the university remains a problem for me since I live in the city. It is worth noting that it was also quite difficult for me to get used to the large amount of homework and work for the whole semester. Nevertheless, since the material is really interesting as well as ...

Task 5 Sasha Ushakova

When true crime films prove to be guilty themselves I've chosen an (art)  article about (art) true crime genre in films and tv-shows. I decided to read it as I like this kind of movies and shows.  The author speaks about the problem of speculation that directors can make in order to attract more attention to their product. He also describes how these films and shows affect the victims of the crimes described there or their relatives. He gives an example of a show based on Madeleine McCann disappearance whose parents didn't ask this show to be done , but it was done (WW) . All in all, Art  author is concerned about the feelings of victims of the crimes that are described in such films and shows, and the fact that people are interested in it (WNum)   so much that they can commit a lynch mob to a person who was revealed as a culprit in a show. Here some words that I find useful:  1) exploitative - taking as much as possible from someone or something an...

Post: Women Photographers

I've read an   article   about women photographers, who have to battl e  sexism in photography. I find it rather topical. As the article says today the majority of students of photojournalism programs are women, but women made up just 15% of entries to the World Press Photo awards.  They are faced to (prep)  many different problems such as a physical threat to their safety, an unconscious bias and stereotypes. For example, the article mentions that  “women should stick to what they know: weddings, beauty, children, families”. Also women are more prone to imposter syndrome.     On the other hand, female photographers have advantages in certain situations. For example, gaining access to, and the trust of, children or women in conservative countries in the Middle East. Notes: When you quote some information from some resource you need to add some introductory phrase such as the one I added in bold before the quotation. It...

Task for Post 5. Vera Murashova

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/mar/17/rap-music-mental-health-issues Well, I have chosen this article because I like the (Art)  hip-hop culture. In the article there is an (art) analysis of a modern tendency of singing about suicide, depression, anxiety and prescription drugs. Then, let me share my ideas about the first task. ·          lo-fi production - (originally spelled low-fi, from the term "low fidelity") is an aesthetic of recorded music in which the sound quality is lower than the usual contemporary standards (the opposite of high fidelity) and imperfections of the recording and production are audible. These standards have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi only began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music (Source?) ·   ...
